about

Chalkhill Blue is a new incarnation of a UK-based multi-instrumentalist who has been living an underground existence amongst the chalk hills of Kent’s downland for a long time! Raised in the early-seventies heyday of glam and progressive rock, he was drawn to blues, rock and
various fusion elements at an early age, and started playing in local gigging bands in North Kent in the eighties, on the back of the Rock New Wave then at its height.

Being a sensible and cautious lad though, rather than embracing the self-destructive lifestyle of the stereotypical rocker, he trod the office-based path to maturity and responsibility, accumulating various programming skills while at the same time developing a hobby as an amateur naturalist. Very worthy and sensible pursuits of course, but the caterpillar of the suppressed artiste can only be cocooned inside the chrysalis of domestic repose for so long before emerging, somewhere, somehow, fully-winged and flight-enabled! And so emerges Chalkhill Blue.

What we have here, though, is a matured and mellowed musical sensibility. Opting for a gentler, keyboard-based approach, drawing inspiration from the beauty and splendour of the natural landscape and wildlife of Britain, Chalkhill Blue holds an instrumental mirror to his surroundings, reflecting his awe of the wonders of creation and creativity.

Incidentally, the chalkhill blue after which this project is named is a small blue butterfly that inhabits these downland regions - long may it continue to do so!
